About

This project was the brainchild of the Juvenile Justice Working Group of Tuscaloosa. In late 2017 the Diversion, Opportunity, and Empowerment for Tuscaloosa Adolescents (DOETA) app was the brainchild of the Tuscaloosa Juvenile Justice Working Group when they applied for a Department of Education Technical Assistance grant. The group focused on building the capacity of our communities to provide justice-involved young adults with diversion programs that include career and technical education, special education, and workforce development. The group includes individuals from across Tuscaloosa interested in providing appropriate services to youth and young adults involved in juvenile justice. The University of Alabama School of Law Children’s Rights Clinic and the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program is heading up development and maintenance for the application. Christina Jones, a student social worker and prior intern of the University of Alabama School of Law, was the driver of coding and programming for the project. She graduated in May of 2020 with a Masters in Social Work from the University of Alabama. Special thanks to Nicole Siino, who initially developed the idea and application template while a student in Suffolk Law’s Legal Innovation and Technology Lab.
